Excerpt: The conraminarion of the arctic aqusric food chain hv, otea nochlorine ;omooundr has been brought to light through the last decade (1-4). These contaminants are anthtopogenic organic compounds which indude pesticides (e.g., lindane, chlordane, endrin, dieldrin, toxaphene, DDT), industrial comoounds. and b,w, roducu of various ndustrtal processes [c g, hcxachlorobenzcns (HCBI, polvhlornarcbdi phenyls (PCDDs), and plchlorodibenzofurans (PCDFs)]. Despite regulatory actions adopted since the late 1970s .in North America and Western Europe to limit heir release into the environment, these compounds are still being emitredbecause of.
