Acknowledgements: The authors would like to thank a number of individuals for their contributions to this project. We would like to thank Leroy D. Baca, Sheriff of Los Angeles County for his support and personal participation in this project; Undersheriff William T. Stonich for his support and direction of the STOP Family Violence Task Force; Captain Dennis Wilson formerly commanding officer of the Advanced Officer Training Unit (AOT), and Lieutenant Todd Rogers, (AOT) for their support and for malung excellent instructors available for this project; Lieutenant Cecil Rhambo, Internal Affairs Bureau (LAB), and Lieutenant Mark Milburn, Internal Criminal Investigations Bureau (ICIB), for their willingness to take the time to gather and provide important data for this report; Sergeant Cory Kennedy of Family Crimes Bureau for directing and supervising the training of sworn personnel for this project, including all sergeants and lieutenants in the Department; and Deputies Timothy Can and Tom McNeal for conducting the many ongoing training sessions for sworn personnel, required by this project.
