Excerpt: In December 1999, the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) released the 1996 annual input output (IO) accounts for the U.S. economy. These accounts are based on an update of the 1992 benchmark IO accounts, and they reflect the recent comprehensive revision of the national income and product accounts (NIPA?s). The IO accounts were prepared using 1996 estimates of industry and commodity output and the 1996 estimates of gross domestic product (GDP) from the NIPA revision.
